Well for the past week I've been flaring up. I had a bout of pneumonia in the beginning of January and I'm sure the antibiotics and the steroids messed up my stomach again. I'm thinking of trying GAPS now. For those of you not aware of it, here's a link for more information. I tried doing SCD but when I started feeling better, I just started cheating and then I was back to where I started. It was hard because the holidays came and the pressure to eat forbidden foods was so strong. I know, I know, I need to have a stronger resolve. Well I'm desperate now so I've decided to do GAPS and probably my daughter who's 3 will be on it too. She's been having some symptoms off on an again and it's really stressing me out.

If you are doing GAPS please comment. Thanks!
This can be a good idea indeed.
ReplyDeleteI have found that a paleo diet alone is not sufficient for me as my gut has been damaged since childhood (I only now realize the amplitude of the damages done).
Fermented foods and bone broths are not only delicious and nourishing but also deeply healing.
I know I can't have too much starch nor high oxalates (most nuts and leafy greens are high in oxalates).
I seem to be able to tolerate some legumes (I know some are SCD friendly).
It's all about finding what is right for you ;).
Hi Alchemille, I'm desperate now so I'm taking things into my own hands :). I still have to buy the GAPS book. This past few days I've been drinking a lot of homemade bone broths and that's helped my stomach a lot. Are you on SCD or GAPS? I love broths(which is a big thing in GAPS) but I really, really, really don't like fermented foods. Hopefully I'll just get over my aversion to that! I do use a good probiotic.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing my own mix of SCD, GAPS and Paleo (with no nightshades, low oxalates and no eggs ~ I hope to be able to reintroduce the later back in my diet at some point).
ReplyDeleteI do tolerate raw dairy in reasonable amounts and make my own yogurt.
I make my own fermented veggies (not too fond on fermented fruits, except in kvass maybe) and I think it's kind of fun. Plus you get to surprise your tastebuds ;).
I agree with you on bone broths. I have been surprised one day to see that it helped my stomach more than peppermint tea!
Please keep me posted on your progress. I'm gonna order the GAPS book tomorrow. I guess I have a lot of reading to do.
ReplyDeleteI love the SCD granola recipe in the book (basically sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and shredded coconut with honey)...From what I understood most of the recipes are from the blog Grain Free Foodies.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I sure hope that the flare-ups stop soon and that you will be feeling better shortly.
